Páll Ólafsson was Ólöf’s father with whom she spent most of the Second World War in Thorshavn, capital of the Fareoe Islands. Páll Ólafsson was Iceland’s first Consul in the Faroe Islands.
It is likely Ólöf sculpted the first bust of her father towards the end or shortly after the war. The larger bust was probably sculpted after she finished her studies and it marks a change in style.
